Mr. Burlingame was formerly President of Hyatt Vacation Ownership, Inc. (“HVOI”), which he led from it founding in 1994 until his retirement in 2017. Hyatt Vacation Ownership, which is now owned by Marriott Vacations Worldwide, is a multi site timeshare developer managing each Hyatt branded timeshare resort and also sponsors the Hyatt Residence Club, a reservation and exchange system which links the resorts together in a multi-site club.
During Mr. Burlingame’s tenure, HVOI, together with its partners, developed 16 timeshare resorts in some of the most desirable destinations in the country. These destinations included difficult to duplicate locations with significant barriers to entry such as Aspen, Maui, Carmel, Key West, and others. In addition, Mr. Burlingame was responsible for Hyatt Hotel Corporations’ branded residential projects on a global basis. Projects were development in Asia, South America, India, Hawaii, as well as the main land USA. Prior to starting Hyatt’s timeshare business, Mr. Burlingame served as a senior development officer for Hyatt Hotel Corporation and was responsible for numerous new Hyatt branded hotels. Prior to joining Hyatt, Mr. Burlingame was a senior associate with Laventhol and Horwath where he consulted on a wide range of hospitality projects. Mr. Burlingame graduated, with distinction, from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. While at Cornell, he was elected to Quill and Dagger Senior Honorary Society.
Mr. Burlingame was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Resort Development Association (“ARDA”) for 15 years, served as its Chairman from May 2003 to May 2005 and received the 2018 ARDA Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a consulting editor for the Handbook of Real Estate Portfolio Management and currently serves as a Trustee of the Aquila Funds Trust. Mr. Burlingame is a frequent speaker at hospitality and vacation ownership conferences.
